
Mr. Lumzy has been an educator for over fifteen years. He was raised in the western community and is a product of the Birmingham City Schools System where he attended Fairview and Jackson Elementary Schools, and graduated from West End High School.
He is a graduate of Alabama State University where he received a B.S. degree in Math, and his M.E. degree in Counseling. He went on to further his education by receiving his Ed.S. degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He rose through the ranks by serving as a math teacher at West End High School, a guidance counselor at Wenonah High School, an assistant principal at Bush Middle School, an elementary school principal at Jackson Elementary School, and was later named as the principal at Arrington Middle School.
Mr. Lumzy has helped Arrington Middle School maintain its 100% AYP status every year with the exception of his first year, when the school missed meeting the mark by 1 goal. He continually works to help increase test scores at Arrington each year. Currently, Arrington is a choice school, because of their consistent 100% AYP status.
Mr. Lumzy is a hard-working, focused man, who wants the best for his students. He wants to ensure that his students receive a quality education and that they are able to compete in a global society. He encourages his students to work to their full potential everyday no matter what obstacles they may face. His motto is “Surround Yourself with Positive and Influential People”. He credits the success of his school, to the Arrington Middle School dynamic faculty and staff.
