The Art Department is run by Ms. Guthrie and is a fun and ongoing artistic learning experience. Students receive art lessons that will stack upon one another throughout their time at Glen Iris. By the time students leave Glen Iris, they should have a great foundation for success in a middle school or a high school art classroom. Starting in Kindergarten, students begin learning about the process of creating drawings, paintings, sculptures and other various works of art. By 5th grade, students should be able to make their own decisions on the creation of valid pieces of art. They learn about the elements of art, color theory, art materials and art history. They will get to use materials such as clay, tempera/acrylic paint, oil pastels, drawing pencils, mixed media materials and other various supplies. Students come to art class once a week for a semester per year. During that time, they may have the opportunity to be introduced to Art club. This is a wonderful way for the interested artist to further their experience. For more information on Art club, click here.
