As the school counselor I wear many hats (have many jobs) but mainly I provide information to help children develop academically and socially, and to help them be aware of the world of work that awaits them in the future. This is done through small group, individual, and large group sessions.
Students cannot function at their best if there are issues keeping them from being as successful in the classroom, even in life, as they should be. My goal is to reach as many students as possible to help them develop skills that will assist them in performing to their potential.
I also consult with parents, the principal, teachers, and outside agency personnel when it is necessary for all to come together to discuss problems needing a collaborative effort to solve.
Counselors are referred to as the heart of the school since we are a part of all that goes on with the school. I give my heart daily as I strive to the best of my ability to do the best I can do in this calling that has been placed on my life. I truly love the children and want them to be successful citizens in school and in their communities.
