William J. Christian Alternative School, a public school in the Birmingham City School system was built in 1961. It is composed of two educational programs. The students in grades kindergarten through fifth attend our school based on the district's zoning guidelines, which includes several communities in the Roebuck/Huffman area. These students may also attend this school by district-approved transfers within the system. The middle school portion of the school, consisting of grades six through eighth, is comprised of students who have been mostly identified as gifted/talented. These students must apply and are selected based on their most recent state assessment scores. Once accepted and enrolled, each student is required to maintain a seventy percent average in all subject areas, maintain high standards of character, and complete a given amount of community services hours.
