Willie James Maye, Jr. has more than 40 years of diverse experience in the field of education. Maye is a decision maker who has a structured yet creative approach to his role as a board member.

Mr. Maye received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Alabama A & M University in 1958. Other academic achievements include:

Master of education in school administration, Alabama A & M University in 1971.
Certification: A.A., school administration, University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1975.
Completed doctoral degree coursework, school administration, University of Alabama in 1978.

In addition to serving on the Birmingham Board of Education, Mr. Maye has also held a variety of positions with several social and professional organizations including the following:

Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association, referee - football, baseball and women's basketball.
Alabama High School Athletic Association, referee - football, baseball and basketball.
Georgia High School Athletic Association, referee - basketball
Tabernacle Baptist Church, Birmingham, Alabama, Board of Trustees president, Sunday school teacher, Male Chorus director
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
