Dragon Events

  • 1. Feb. 19 is the deadline to enter art contest about the Tuskegee Airmen. 

    In honor of the homecoming of a WWII plane that was once flown by Tuskegee Airmen, the Southern Museum of Flight will host a student art contest. 
     
    The contest is open to grades K-12 throughout Jefferson County. The art must be based on the Tuskegee Airmen. The deadline to enter is Feb. 19.
     
    Entry packets may be picked up at the Southern Museum of Flight. The student art work will be featured in an exhibition, which will open Feb. 26 and end March 25 at the Southern Museum of Flight. 
     
    Contest guidelines include:
     
    • Theme of work: Tuskegee Airmen, Bravery and Honor
     
    • Size: No larger than 30'' x 36''. Art may be done on poster board or canvas
     
    • Use no more than three or four colors in the work. Outline in black.
     
    • Students may use colored pencils, paint, pen and ink
     
    • A copy of the entry form MUST be attached to the back of the art work.

    2. March 3 is the deadline to apply for a Google computer science summer camp and $10,000 scholarship. Visit their Google for Education website for more information and to apply. Final decisions will be announced in early May 2016.

     

    3. Scholarship auditions for UAB's music program will be held on March 5. 

    UAB's Music Technology and Jazz Program will hold music scholarship auditions on Saturday, March 5 in the school's Hulsey Center. The deadline to apply for this scholarship audition is Feb. 19. Auditions are required for all students planning to major or minor in music at UAB.  The school will host music auditions for admission on Saturday, April 9. The deadline to apply is Monday, March 28. For more information about auditions, go here or call 205-934-7376. 

     

    3. The deadline to apply for Anytown Alabama summer camp in Chelsea is March 13. Scholarships are available.

     

    4. April 22 is the deadline to apply for the College Counts Scholarship.  Open to students enrolling in two-year and four-year colleges in fall 2016. Students must have at least a 2.75 GPA. For more info, please visit: http://collegecountsalabama.com.
